Coastal Surveillance
Countries with large coastal areas and port facilities must contend with a number of security threats that can originate from the sea, including terrorism, piracy, smuggling/trafficking and illegal immigration. For these countries, it is vital to have a “virtual fence” that can detect and track targets in real time and be identified rapidly. This enables appropriate action to be taken before they become a risk to personnel and infrastructure in the coastal zone. Long-range sensor solutions are a key defense to these threats, allowing personnel to visually detect small craft or swimmers from longer ranges and confirm alarms from other sensors.
CONTROP’s SPEED-ER combined with our TORNADO-ER wide-area surveillance sensor is a unique solution for coastal surveillance and protection. The TORNADO-ER will scan the waters up to the horizon and automatic detecting and tracking any moving target even swimmers. The SPEED-ER is used to investigate and identify the detected targets at a very high resolution all the way to the horizon.
The SPEED-ER combines all the necessary sensors: extra narrow and a wide field-of-view daylight camera, along with a cooled medium-wave infrared (MWIR) camera and a short-wave IR (SWIR) sensor. The SWIR camera is highly effective in low-visibility conditions such as haze and mist, which is a common issue in coastal areas, and allows camera operators to see details such as ship names. All products can seamlessly integrate into a security C2 architecture that includes radar, AIS and other systems.
